R.I.P. To Another Legend

Sad but true, we've lost another legend in the world of music. This one was a genius of a different kind. Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys died this morning (April 4th) from cancer of the Salivary Gland. Adam found out he had throat cancer in 2009. Since then he has been increasingly scarce from major events, tours etc. Even just a month ago the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Adam was missing from the induction. Just the third rap group ever in history to make it into the H.O.F. it's unfortunate that MCA passed just a month after the ceremony. For once, an artist had a chance to be alive to see such an award. Yauch was only 47 years young and founded the group in high school in 1979 as a punk band. They eventually morphed into one of the most respected and loved groups period. He was a very talented artist and director often directing the groups videos under the alias Nathaniel Hornblower. His interest in video led to him starting his own production company, Oscilloscope Laboratories, and shooting several documentaries. He will be missed here but respected eternally. R.I.P. Adam Yauch.

America's Oldest Teenager Has Passed

The legendary TV/Radio host Mr. Dick Clark has passed away on the morning of April 18th of a "massive heart attack". He was known as "America's Oldest Teenager" because he was up on all of the current styles of popular music and he never seemed to age. However, Dick Clark was 82 when he passed away. He's been responsible for launching many careers over the years. He started off at Syracuse University working at a country station and going by the name Dick Clay. He would eventually move to another station in Philly where he began hosting a show called "Bandstand". The show was picked up by ABC in 1957 and ran until 1987. He then launched a syndicated radio show under his own company name United Stations Radio Network (aka UNISTAR) that he eventually sold to Westwood One in 1994. A year later he started a new network and a new countdown show that he hosted until 2004 when he suffered a serious heart attack that kept him form hosting his New Years Rockin Eve ever since. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife Kari and three children Rac, Duane and Cindy. From all of us in radio, thank Mr. Clark for showing us how to do it right. Job well done, now rest in peace.

Whitney Honored

It's been a rough last couple of days even for me the major music fan. I felt Whitney's death like she was my family member. As we all begin to accept the unfortunate tragedy, please keep her daughter Bobbi Kristina in serious prayer. She was admitted to the hospital the day of and the day after her mothers death for severe panic attacks. I could only imagine what she must be going through at age 18 losing her mother. The Grammy's didn't shy away from it. LL Cool J hosted the event and said a prayer for Whitney. God Rest His Sooouuuulll!

In some unfortunate news, the legendary Don Cornelius was found dead in his Sherman Oaks, Ca home this morning. He was 75 years old and dealing with a recent divorce. Authorities do not suspect foul play. TMZ reported that in 2009 Mr. Cornelius told the judge in his divorce case that he needed to hurry up and finalize the divorce before he died. Did Mr. Cornelius suspect or know something the general public didn't? The details of the divorce have not been disclosed. In the end it's a very sad turn of events. He was the host and the creator of something that has been and will always be such a strong part of black culture and now american culture. Although the Soul Train has made it's final stop the memories will reverberate forever. Thank you Mr. Don Cornelius. may your Soooouuuulll be at peace.

Miles Davis Honored

Nearly 20 years after his death and less than a year before we might loose the United States Postal service, Miles Davis is finally being honored with a commemorative stamp. I've never understood why they wait so long before honoring certain legends. By the time it hits circulation they just might be collectors items only. At Piece, At Last

Legendary singer Etta James Passed away after complications with Leukemia on January 20th. She was diagnosed with terminal Leukemia just a month prior. She was 73 years old and left behind a husband and two sons Donto and Sammetto. Both sons started performing with her in 2003, Donto on drums and Sametto on bass. Her life was definitely that of a movie. You could see a glimpse of what it was like in the movie Cadillac Music. Etta, who's real name is Jamesetta Hawkins, was a troubled soul. However, she wrote some classic records "At Last", "Tell Mama", "Dance With Me" and "I'd Rather Go Blind". R.I.P. to another fallen legend, who's legacy will continue to live on.

Check out the legendary Grandmaster Caz in the studio working on a new album called "The Vintage Album". Be prepared because a true pioneer is about to get back in the booth and lay it down! Oh and don't forget that he was credited as writing some of the lyrics on the first ever, commercially released hip hop classic "The Rappers Delight". Check yo history fooo!
