WMG Accused Of Illegally Selling Valuable Rap Songs And Keeping The Money

(AllHipHop News) Warner Music Group has been slapped with a lawsuit claiming it has been illegally selling and profiting off of downloads from DM Records, a Hip-Hop label that owns the copyrights to thousands of lucrative copyrights.

DM Records, which is based in North Miami Beach, Florida, owns the rights to various records by artists like Tupac Shakur, MC Breed, Jody Watley and Prince.

The label also counts Tag Team's hit single "Whoomp! There it Is!" and Duice's 1993 smash single "Dazzey Dukes" as copyrights the own and control.

The lawsuit claims that Ryko Distribution was the exclusive distributor of DM Records' music, until WMG acquired Ryko in 2006.

Waka Flocka Starring In "Juice" Remake With Soulja Boy

When asked why he opted to add Flocka, Soulja Boy responded,
“I think it was a good idea to bring him on board because the director was trying to get me to put some rappers in it, and he was naming a lot of different rappers. I just felt like if I was gonna put anybody inthe movie, it should make sense and be somebody that I really got a relationship with in the rap game, for real […] He's gonna be a member of my crew and we're gonna be like this upcoming group in Atlanta. It's gonna be four of us and we're gonna be going against this rival crew.”

Charlie Sheen hit by SMS break-up, 'losing' his porn star goddess .

One of Charlie Sheen's two goddesses, Rachel Oberlin (porn star stage name: Bree Olson) has broken up with him, and she did it via SMS. Sheen revealed the break-up during his Fort Lauderdale, FL show on Saturday night, one of the cities in his 20-city "My Violent Torpedo of Truth / Defeat Is Not an Option" tour.

Apparently, Sheen still has his No. 2 goddess, Natalie "Natty" Kenly. The pair had been traveling with Sheen during his tour. In early March, Charlie Sheen Tweeted, that Olson had "left the building" and that, "We're sad ... Over it ... Applications now being accepted." About two hours later, Sheen Tweeted, "She's back."

Olson got her start in the porn industry in 2006. According to Wikipedia, she has since starred in 179 adult films. However, she has said that as long as she and Sheen were together, she would remain retired (ahem).

In 2008, she won AVN’s Best New Starlet award; in 2010, she received the AVN award for Best All-Girl Three-Way Sex Scene. Maxim also named her one of the top 12 female stars in porn in 2010, as well.

Meanwhile, Kenly has been dubbed “Chronic Girl 2010.” She was on the February cover, along with a bong, of the magazine Cali Chronic X, a magazine focused on marijuana.

Warner Bros. Television fired Sheen from the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men" in early March. At the time, TMZ obtained the 11-page letter sent to Sheen's attorney, Marty Singer. The letter detailed Sheen's issues over the past several months, adding that "there is ample evidence [that Sheen] has committed felony offenses ... including, but not limited to furnishing of cocaine to others as part of the self-destructive lifestyle he has described publicly."

The Warner Bros. letter also took note of the multiple times that Sheen lashed out at "Two and a Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre. The letter cited the times that Sheen called Lorre a "turd" and a "clown," among other names. In addition, Sheen appears to have mocked Lorre's Jewish heritage by calling him by his Hebrew name, "Chaim Levine."

Sheen still has several dates left on his tour, meaning he'll have to be satisfied with just one additional person in the hotel room with him.

Idris Elba Talks THOR; Says "It's An Extraordinary Visual Spectacular"

Talking to Guardian, Idris Elba shared some oh his thoughts on playing the all-seeing guardian of Asgard, in Marvel Studios' highly anticipated big screen adaptation of THOR.

"It's an extraordinary visual spectacular," says Elba. "It's different from anything else I've done; but at the same time, it's been pointed out to me that here I am playing a central, solid figure again – the one that people should trust. Take Stringer or Luther – that seems to be a common denominator in the characters I play."

Ludacris Says New Album 'Ludaversal' Is On Another Level

(AllHipHop News) Ludacris recently sat down with AllHipHop.com to discuss the progress of his upcoming eighth album, Ludaversal.

The rapper, born Chris Bridges, has been busy pursuing an acting career with roles in upcoming movies like "Breakaway" and "Fast Five" co-starring Vin Diesel, which is due in theaters this Friday (April 29th).

According to Ludacris, his busy schedule and his acting career have not interfered with his ability to make a hit album.

"When you hear the album you’ll know," Ludacris told AllHipHop.com. "People can expect me to take it to a level they know I’m capable of. If anybody has doubts, I have no problem continuing to prove myself. And I have no problem slapping the ones who’re sleeping to make them wake up. It’s about consistency."

Over the years, Ludacris has collaborated with a wide variety of artists, from singers like Enrique Iglesias, Fergie and Mary J. Blige to rappers like Lil Wayne, Nas and Jay-Z

During his 11-year career, Luda has sold almost 20 million records worldwide.

The rapper attributed his success to his ability to make cameo appearances on hit records, while maintaining his Hip-Hop roots as a lyricist.

Ludacris said he always had the "perfect balance between always staying true to the Hip Hop lyricists’ roots" and never limited himself to working with one particular type of artist.

"Who else is able to do those and still get on the 'Welcome to My Hood (Remix)' and kill s**t – period? That’s what I think I’ve been able to consistently do," Ludacris told AllHipHop.com.

Ludacris album Ludaversal is due in stores in early 2012.

Chrysler Adds Eminem Mentor Dr. Dre To Its Advertising Ranks

Eminem and his mentor Dr. Dre will forever be linked due to their individual and combined accomplishments in music. Now the mentor and mentee will be linked yet again in another venture – this time not inside the studio but in the world of advertising.

Detroit rapper Eminem and his recent success as a pitch man for Chrysler has no doubt spawned the Michigan-based automaker to seek out the services of Eminem’s mentor Dr. Dre in an upcoming series of ads alongside lauded National Football League Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Chrysler’s bold foray into incorporating the much maligned bad boy of hip hop as part of their current campaign has not only bolstered interest in the car company, but also has shaken up the advertising industry in a most stylish fashion.

Some will recall that Chrysler debuted their mid-size sedan model 200 vehicle in a two-minute clip during this year's Super Bowl Championship showing sweeping images of the working class city of Detroit, backed a hushed instrumental version of Eminem’s Academy and Grammy Award winning smash hit “Lose Yourself.” Featuring Michigan native son Eminem in the clip was a fitting marriage of triumph over despair, capturing a vision of redemption for Em and resilience for Chrysler.

Chrysler noted a spike in website hits and sales shortly after the ad was aired and reported earlier this month that March sales of the 200 sedan jumped to 191 percent from February – no doubt a result of their successful run with Slim Shady. Reports also state that while still a struggling carmaker, the company is showing signs of health again.

Chrysler hopes to duplicate that magic with Dr. Dre. In recent times a pitch man for soft drink beverage company Dr. Pepper and computer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard, the good doctor should be a natural at this by now as music has taken a bit of a backseat for the legendary producer although the long promised release of his final opus Detox remains eminent. Dr. Dre’s successful “Beats By Dre” headphone line also enjoys a firm place atop sales in the fast-growing high end headphone market.

What do you think of Dr. Dre joining Eminem in the Chrysler ad campaign? Is it a good look for Dre at this point of his long career? Tweet to us at @MTVRapFix or leave us a comment below.

The Chronic aint free

Dr. Dre has won a lawsuit against the owners of his former record label, Death Row, over the digital rights and royalties for his hit 1992 album “The Chronic.”

Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, founded Death Row with Suge Knight, and left the company in 1996. Death Row went into bankruptcy in 2006, and three years later the label’s assets were bought by WIDEawake Entertainment Group. In the suit, filed last year in United States District Court in Los Angeles, Dr. Dre contended that from 1996 until Death Row’s bankruptcy, “not a dime of royalties had been paid,” and that the label had been selling digital versions of “The Chronic” without permission.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Judge Christina A. Snyder said that Death Row did not have the rights to distribute “The Chronic” online, and that Dr. Dre is entitled to damages over lost royalties from those sales.

BEATS PRO HEADPHONES

The Monster Beats Pro are a great choice for a professional DJ looking for a sturdy pair of headphones that are built for club use and deliver booming bass. They could also be a good choice for a non-professional user who is primarily interested in style and bass. However, if crisp highs or comfort are your primary concerns, then you should probably look at the Studios or another brand. At $450 retail, you may also be able to find a similar sounding headphone at a lower price, but if you are not on a budget and you value style as well as solid construction the Beats Pros cannot be beat.

Pros:
 Completely solid aluminum construction
 Booming bass
 Cable plugs on each ear.
 Swiveling Ear Cups\
 Audio cable lock prevents accidental disconnection

Cons:
 High price tag
 Bass can overshadow highs
 Tight and Heavy

HOW ABOUT WE FOCUS ON AMERICA ITSELF!

#Winningthefuture: The Obama Administration's African-American Focus

Never let it be said that the Obama White House hasn't done anything for the Black community. President Obama has created or saved 3 million jobs. He dedicated 800 million dollars to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), he worked to alleviate some of the disparity in drug sentencing laws reducing the disparity in cocaine to crack sentencing from 100 to 1 to 18 to 1. Over 4 million minority businesses have benefited from tax credits, and programs like the Mortgage Forbearance program and income based student loan repayment benefit Black America.

Yet, consider Rev. Al Sharpton and Prof. Cornel West arguing on MSNBC, a community activist and an Ivy League professor, both of whom embrace the President, while still offering criticism of his perceived lack of policies that specifically seek to improve the lives of black Americans. It is an oft-heard refrain, that the “First Black President” hasn’t “done anything for Black folks.” Still, there exists within the Obama administration numerous African-Americans including Senior Advisor to the President, Valerie Jarrett, Michael Strautmanis, Counselor for Strategic Engagement and Assistant to the President, and Michael Blake, Director of African-American & Minority Business Outreach. The roles of Strautmanis and specifically Michael Blake are to labor for the concerns of minorities.

Why? Many African American still don't know what the White House is doing.

The office of African-American & Minority Business Outreach has created a series of community forums to discuss “Winning the Future,” the theme of President Obama’s new budget initiative. A recent meeting in Atlanta, at the Atlanta Life building, home of the first African-American life insurance company, was full of 30-somethings dressed in business attire and ready to work. The Obama Generation was in full effect ready to hear about how the administration can best serve local communities and how local residents can help their communities win the future. The 400-plus audience was largely young, eager, excited and most importantly, engaged in their communities.

Michael Strautmanis encouraged the audience reminding them that, "He (The President) is thinking about you. He is working for you. You are in his heart and on his mind." Strautmanis also thanked Atlanta's 41 year old Mayor, Kasim Reed, for his "friendship and model leadership." The President trusts and admires this young mayor," he expounded. Mayor Reed, who won his position by less than 800 votes stated, "If we miss this time, where the most influential African-American on the planet doesn't throw a ball, pitch a ball, or catch a ball, we will not be worthy of the people who made it possible for us to sit here right now."

Blake echoed the Mayor's sentiments calling the hallowed names of civil rights pioneers who hailed from Atlanta stating that the audience can not "mess up this opportunity."

One of the most interesting things about this Town Hall meeting, which almost had the feel of a pre-election rally, was that the representatives of the federal government and specifically the White House provided contact email addresses and phone numbers led by Michael Blake, Director of African-American & Minority Business Outreach. Blake, a New York native, provided his email addresses and asked members of the Minority Business Development Agency and General Services Administration to provide their contact information as well, implying that this White House is available to the public.

“We want to open the doors,” Blake stated, “We need to make it plain that a lot of things are happening.” Town hall events, like the one that took place in Atlanta, helps people become aware of what the federal government can do and recognize those who are already working. “We have to get out and talk to folks,” Blake reiterated, “Help us organize.”

The event closed with the opportunity for many to ask questions of the panel, and the lines were long. However, the key point was made by Mr. Blake who talked about the Winning the Future intitiative of the President, which is focused on "Out-educating, Out-building, and Out-innovating" the rest of the world. "When you go to sleep, someone else around the world is trying to beat you. If we stay focused, we can continue to win winning the future."

TUPAC, EAZY-E VICTIMS OF JEWISH DEFENSE LEAGUE EXTORTION PLOT

The FBI has released a file on Tupac "2Pac" Shakur that reveals the rapper and N.W.A. founder Eazy-E were targets of an extortion plot by alleged terrorist organization the Jewish Defense League.

"This release consists of a 1997 investigation into allegations that extortionate death threats had been made against Shakur and another rap artist by a domestic terrorist group," reads the official report.

Though many of the key names have been omitted, the document reveals that the Jewish Defense League (JDL) have been accused of Mosque burning and the attempted assassination of a U.S. Congressman, along with acting as Eazy-E and Jerry Heller's security in negotiating Dr. Dre's exit from Ruthless Records with Suge Knight.

Hip Hop Artist are smarter than you think

Have you ever heard a rapper spit a few bars that were radically genius and wondered wow he sounds so smart? That’s because he probably is! You would be surprised to learn that some of the most renowned Hip-Hop artists not only are intelligent, but also have the degrees to verify that position. Ludacris, Ice Cube, Plies, Wale, Stat Quo, even Flavor Flav have met the qualifications of an institution as a graduate.
Yes “Flavoooor Flaaaav!” Everyone knows Kanye West was a college dropout, but many others had similar stories and continued onto stardom such as Master P, Paul Wall, Common, Rick Ross, Rich Boy, and Diddy. When Ashanti was providing the soundtrack to your love fests she also could have tutored you, because not everyone had been accepted into the Ivy League of Princeton University.
When you walk into an attorney or doctor’s office the first thing you notice is a 17×21 frame on the wall displaying their diplomas. When’s the last time you were in the studio or watching MTV Cribs and saw the same thing sitting encased within a trophy shelf next to an emcee’s other accomplishments? Why doesn’t hanging a degree hold any leverage compared to hanging up a platinum plaque?

Mario Van Peebles Directs First Rap Video With Rej3ctz' 'Cat Daddy 2.0'

Meebo Share Button AHH IconGet Alerts AllHipHop Radio
(AllHipHop News) Mario Van Peebles has directed his first-ever Hip-Hop video, with rappers The Rej3ctz and their new video "Cat Daddy 2.0," which they hope will be as successful as the original "Cat Daddy" video, which has over 20,000,000 YouTube views to date.

The video begins with Rej3ctz group members Mowii, Bounc3 and Pee W33 boasting about how they are going to master their first movie auditions.

They realize they are in for more than they realized when they meet their competition: rapper Quincy Brown (Sean 'Diddy Combs' son), rapper YG and Carlos Olivero (Menudo).

One by one, the group members are rejected by director Mario Van Peebles, until his teenaged sons (The MVP Boys), his daughter Maya and DJ Charisma (Power 106) come up with the idea of letting the rejects perform.

“Teenagers are listening to a lot of new music," said Mario Van Peebles, who directed movies like Rappin', New Jack City and most recently 50 Cent's movie Things Fall Apart."

"It’s not just about gangsta rap and hyper capitalism wish fulfillment anymore,” Mario Van Peebles reasoned. “I think the Rej3ctz represent some of the shift to a brighter, more self deprecating and implicitly socially conscious stance. “Cat Daddy 2.0” tells the story of how we met on the film audition. These guys clearly had the self-confidence to not take themselves or the rap game too seriously. It’s as if, on some level, they get the joke of life.”

"Cat Daddy 2.0" is taken from the soundtrack to the upcoming movie "We The Party," which Van Peebles directed.

The "Dramedy," which tells the story of high schoolers coming of age during the Obama Administration, also stars Snoop Dogg, YG, The New Boyz, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Michael Jai White, Tiny Lister, Orlando Brown, Quincy Brown and Mario Van Peebles himself

"He understood our vision as Renaissance Artists, and saw this video as a creative opportunity to capture a different side of us individually and as a group," said Bounc3.

"We The Party" slated for a summer release.

Still not okay to sing F*** the police?

NEW Zealand singer Tiki Taane was handcuffed and arrested for disorderly behavior after singing a song considered an American gangster anthem, N.W.A's "F*** The Police."
Taane said he regularly played the N.W.A. protest song, written by rapper Ice Cube in 1988, at shows but a police officer in a Tauranga nightclub in New Zealand's north island early Sunday morning became upset at the song's lyrics.

"I have had an excellent rapport with the NZ Police and I intend to keep that relationship positive," the performer said in a statement. "I'm 34-years-old and this is my first ever offense, and I feel it is unfortunate that one particular police officer became upset with the N.W.A lyrics I sang that night."

Game console pioneer Jerry Lawson dies at 70

Gerald A. "Jerry" Lawson is one of the great unknown pioneers of the video game industry. He passed away this past Saturday morning of unspecified causes, according to an announcement on Digital Press.

Lawson will be remembered as the engineer of the first cartridge-based game console (with a pause option!), the Fairchild Channel F, which launched in August 1976 as the Video Entertainment System (VES). He was also the only black member of the legendary Homebrew Computer Club, formed in Silicon Valley in the mid-70s.

In the early 1980s he founded and ran Videosoft, which developed a handful of games for the Atari 2600. Additionally, Lawson's Demolition Derby was one of the first coin-op arcade machines, produced in his garage in the early '70s and installed in a southern California pizzeria shortly after Pong debuted. One of its key design features prevented players from stealing "free" games by jiggling the coin switch

Just last month, Lawson was honored during the 7th Annual IGDA Minority Special Interest Group Social Gathering at GDC. Shortly before the event, he was profiled by the San Jose Mercury News. More about his life is revealed in a 2009 interview with Vintage Computing and Gaming.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Reason Timbaland Cancel His Australian Tour?

WHY DID TIMBALAND CANCEL HIS TOUR?

By now, you have heard the news that Timbaland canceled an upcoming tour of Australia.

While the promoters really didn't give a reason, some of our friends on the streets of a major city shared some interesting information.

"Timbo didnt go to Supafest in Australia cause he owes some people some money for the last time he didn't show and the goon squad was waiting for him."

I don't know about that, Timbaland probably has a lot of security anyway, plus he looks like he lifts weights.
